Our services

To carry out its mission, the association proposes:

  • teaching French in workshops at different levels (from A1 to B1),
  • French language improvement courses,
  • computer courses,
  • cultural and socio-cultural outings,
  • information relating to prevention,
  • If needed, drafting assistance for any administrative procedures for foreign people who already use the association's services.

It offers its services to members who reside in the town of Fontenay-sous-Bois and the surrounding towns.

Most courses are held at the Maison du Citoyen et de la Vie Associative, located at 16 rue du Révérend Père Aubry in Fontenay-sous-Bois.

Classes are held during school terms, with 1 or 2 sessions per week. They take place during the day or in the evening.

The annual fee for all activities offered is €55, except in special situations which may justify a reduced rate.

Training

(all levels)

Each year, the association welcomes non-French-speaking adults, whether or not they were educated in their country of origin, to sociolinguistic workshops (ASL) led by our volunteers. All the workshops we offer aim to provide participants with sufficient French proficiency to integrate into French society and achieve genuine independence.

The teaching we provide covers five main areas:

  • public life (Town Hall, CAF...)
  • Civic life at the heart of society (democracy, values of the Republic...)
  • personal life (housing, budget...)
  • cultural life (media, museums, heritage, etc.)
  • public health in collaboration with the House of Prevention.

French lessons

Literacy

These workshops are for newcomers who do not know French and have had little or no schooling in their country of origin.

Through authentic situations and documents, we aim to acquire basic knowledge of French, reading and writing, essential tools for achieving social autonomy.

French language improvement workshops

For more advanced learners, French as a Foreign Language (FLE) courses are offered. While still aiming for the social integration of participants, these courses emphasize language acquisition while maintaining an ASL (Assistance to Secondary School Learning) approach. The focus here is primarily on developing written and oral comprehension and expression skills.

Grammar lessons

These courses complement the other workshops and delve deeper into specific points of grammar, conjugation or spelling.

Conversation workshops

These workshops allow participants to practice and improve their spoken French in a friendly atmosphere.

They also provide an opportunity to raise participants' awareness of republican values, French history, and current events. The topics covered are varied and can include health, the environment, religion, education, different regions of the world, gastronomy, and sports.

Cultural activities

Cultural visits

As part of our association, we organize cultural outings for all our learners regardless of their level of French.

During morning class hours we offer film screenings in Vincennes, visits to museums near Fontenay-sous-Bois, such as the Nogent-sur-Marne museum or the Maison des Artistes, as well as visits to Parisian museums such as the Museum of the History of Immigration, the Louvre, the Picasso Museum, the Petit Palais...

On Saturday or Sunday afternoons we can offer our members concert tickets at the Philharmonie de Paris, the Musée du Quai Branly, or even the Opéra-Comique and shows at the Comédie-Française with which we have a privileged partnership.

These outings allow us to have a different kind of contact with the people in our classes and give them another way to experience our language. It's also an opportunity for us to share our culture with them and for them to introduce us to the culture of their countries.

Media Library

Fontenay-sous-Bois has an extraordinary media library which can greatly complement the courses we provide to learners:

  • French as a Foreign Language (FLE) learning manuals
  • Easy novels with glossary (for adults who are beginner readers)
  • Newspapers, magazines and comics, to be read in small doses, using illustrations as a guide.
  • dictionaries
  • documentary books on all subjects (cooking, animals, geography, politics, etc.)

A multimedia space is available, with workstations and learning software, including French.

In all three areas (library, media library, and multimedia area), librarians are available to advise and assist as needed. There are also many comfortable spaces for working, reading, and other quiet activities.

As part of our association, presentation visits are organized for learners and/or trainers.

Computer science

Information technology is becoming increasingly integrated into our societies.

SmartPhones have overtaken computers and are ubiquitous in our lives. Furthermore, administrative procedures are increasingly digital. This course aims to introduce these digital tools to facilitate independence.

2 workshops offered

The basic concepts are covered (hardware, office software, file management) then the volunteers offer a more personalized course according to the needs of the learners (multimedia, online shopping, making a CV, finding a route, making a France Travail declaration, checking bank transactions, paying for the canteen...)

The computer equipment (about ten computers) is operational. The workstations are running Windows 10 and can be used during the association's opening hours, even outside of computer workshops. Come and practice!

Public writer

For all administrative procedures

This service is exclusively for members of the association and takes place one morning a week. However, it is preferable to make an appointment. It provides assistance with writing official letters, CVs and cover letters, and more generally, support and guidance with administrative procedures. This is a free service for our members.

Traffic Laws

This activity is currently suspended due to a lack of available volunteers.

The association has the necessary tools for this training.

If you are interested in this mission which is in high demand among our learners, do not hesitate to contact us to come and lead this workshop twice a week for two hours each time, in the afternoon.

Note: it is not necessary to be a driving instructor, a "classic" knowledge of the code is sufficient, but you must be able to explain situations to learners who do not have a perfect command of French.
